Tennessee Lady Vol, Candace Parker Going Pro

Wednesday, Tennessee All-American, Candace Parker announced that she will take part in senior day festivities when the Lady Vols play their final home basketball game Feb. 28 against Florida.

This un-officially confirms that Parker will not return next season to use her final year of eligibility but rather move on to the professional league of the WNBA.

Parker is likely the No. 1 pick of the Los Angeles Sparks.

About Candace Parker not returning to NCAA next year. I would do the same thing. At lease she completed 3 years of college with Tennessee. I had a dream of playing for the Los Angeles Sparks until the year of 2006. Chicago Sky came in play and I changed my mind because I’d rather play for my hometown. Since she had a dream she planned on following, why hold herself back to wait a whole year when she can do what she does best a year earlier.

    Hi Melody,

Thanks for visiting the WNBA fan club.

I agree. When you are working towards a dream you have to go for it. It’s that simple. With Parker’s situation, I think she has made the right decision for her. She’s ready for the W.

There is a chance that Chicago could get Parker but it’s a slim one. Since LA has number 1 this year, the only way Chicago cloud get Parker is if LA thought that she wasn’t the number 1 pick for their team.

But there really isn’t a reason for LA not to pick Parker. If you look down WNBA history most, if not all championship teams have been built around a number 1 draft pick.

We wish the best to Parker. She is going to be an exciting player to watch this season and into the future.

Hope to see you back soon, Melody! :)
