01.23Atlanta is a ‘Dream’
It will be announced today that the new expansion team in Atlanta will be called the Atlanta Dream.
“It seems to me it’s a really consistent name with Atlanta and its history,” says team owner Ron Terwilliger.
The Atlanta City Council president and team adviser, Lisa Borders, agrees.
“The name fits Atlanta so well … We have always been dreamers in this city, whether for a commercial purpose or a moral purpose. So the name absolutely captures the spirit of Atlanta.”
Atlanta was awarded the new expansion WNBA team in October, 2007. The Dream’s first home game for the season is on May 23, 2008 against the Detroit Shock.
WNBA Atlanta Team Owner Ron Terwilliger will be unveiling the franchise Atlanta Dream team name, logo, and colors. It will take place today at the Eastlake YMCA. Expected to be present, WNBA President Donna Orender and Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders.
